We are recruiting researchers to join our team.
We are always looking for new scientists who share our research interests or have exciting ideas of their own. Given that the laboratory is in the starting phase, lab members should expect to contribute significantly to initial research projects and receive direct mentoring and training from Dr. Andy Alexander. The Alexander laboratory and UCSB more broadly are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service. If you think you'd be a good fit please feel free to reach out to: andyalexander@ucsb.edu. That said, we cannot respond to all email inquiries due to the large volume of such requests.
Undergraduate students
All spaces for undergraduate research assistants are currently filled. That said, if you'd like to apply please fill out this form and we will be in contact should a space open up.
Preference is given to students with programming and/or rodent handling experience but not required.
Graduate students
Students interested in joining the laboratory through either the PB&S Ph.D. program in Neuroscience and Behavior or the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Dynamical Neuroscience are encouraged to reach out as soon as possible to discuss opportunities.
Postdoctoral fellows
We are actively recruiting a postdoctoral fellow with experience in theory/computation. A Ph.D. in neuroscience, physics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related field is required.
Environment
The laboratory is in the UCSB Biological Sciences II building located on the bluffs above the Pacific Ocean. UCSB has an amazing scientific community including a strong interdisciplinary neuroscience contingent. Beyond the science, Santa Barbara is an idyllic beach town located on the central coast with great local food, art, outdoors, and within driving distance to major cities (e.g. Los Angeles or San Francisco).
